15-Year-Old Dog Rescued from Storm Drain Now Hopes for a Loving Second Chance

In late May, the Humane Society of Lebanon County in Pennsylvania received an urgent call—a dog was trapped in a storm drain. When rescuers arrived, they feared the worst. The dog appeared lifeless, but as they removed the grate, he slowly lifted his head.

The elderly dog, later identified as Buddy, had been missing for three weeks. At 15 years old, he was found curled up, weak, and near death. Shelter staff rushed him to emergency care, where he began to regain strength over the next three days.

Though Buddy’s condition improved, his advanced age and health issues mean his recovery will be gradual. He requires ongoing medical care, gentle handling, and careful monitoring due to the risks associated with sedation.

The shelter is covering all of Buddy’s medical expenses, food, and supplements. Now, they are seeking a patient foster home where he can rest and heal. Buddy gets along well with cats and calm dogs, making him a gentle companion for the right home.

His rescuers say, “His journey isn’t over—let’s give him the love he deserves.”
