Chumlee from Pawn Stars Reveals He Tested Positive – What Happened Next?

Austin Lee Russell, better known to millions as “Chumlee” from the History Channel hit Pawn Stars, is facing serious legal trouble after a police raid on his Las Vegas home uncovered drugs and firearms. What began as an investigation linked to another criminal case ended with the reality star negotiating a plea deal that could determine whether he faces prison or rehabilitation.

Court filings indicate that the 33-year-old will plead guilty to attempted possession of a controlled substance and forfeit all items seized during the March raid. In return, he will serve three years’ probation and undergo mandatory counseling and substance abuse treatment. If he completes probation successfully, a felony weapons charge could be dismissed; any violations, however, could result in up to five years in state prison.

Police executed the search after receiving information connecting Chumlee’s home to a separate investigation. Authorities reportedly found multiple firearms — several unregistered — and narcotics including methamphetamine and marijuana, along with drug paraphernalia and a collection of luxury items.

The news shocked fans, who knew Chumlee as the lighthearted comic relief at the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop. Born and raised in Henderson, Nevada, Russell grew up with Corey Harrison, son of Rick Harrison, the shop’s owner. Since the show’s 2009 debut, Chumlee’s goofy charm and on-screen missteps made him a fan favorite, but those close to him describe a more complex figure — intelligent, creative, and kind-hearted, yet prone to distraction and excess.

Fame brought challenges. As the show skyrocketed to international success, Chumlee struggled with public attention and side ventures, including a candy shop and clothing line. Friends say his legal troubles stemmed not from violence or malicious intent, but from poor choices and negative influences.

The Clark County District Attorney’s Office called the plea deal a path to accountability and rehabilitation. “Mr. Russell has agreed to terms that will allow him to take responsibility and demonstrate that he can turn his life around,” officials stated. Chumlee’s attorney emphasized his client’s commitment: he is taking the process seriously, attending therapy, and focusing on family while rebuilding trust with his colleagues.

Rick Harrison, patriarch of the show, echoed support: “Chumlee’s been like family to us for a long time. Everybody makes mistakes. What matters is what you do afterward.” Legal experts note that plea deals are common in first-time, nonviolent offenses, particularly when rehabilitation is prioritized. But violations carry swift consequences.

Fan reactions have been mixed, from disappointment to forgiveness, with many hoping Chumlee can use this as a chance to rebuild. The outcome of his plea deal will likely shape the next chapter of his life far more than his television fame ever did.

If he completes probation, the weapons charge will be dismissed, and his record cleared. If not, prison looms — a stark contrast to the lights of the pawn shop that made him famous.

Chumlee’s journey has always been one of contradictions: the lovable fool who was smarter than he appeared. Now, off-camera, his next act will depend not on bargains or laughs, but the decisions he makes in real life. In a city built on second chances, the question is whether he can finally make the deal that saves his future.
