Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Hospitalized in Luxembourg After Diplomatic Event Fall

Former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 84, has been hospitalized in Luxembourg after suffering an injury during an official ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge. According to her spokesperson, Pelosi “sustained an injury during an official engagement” and is receiving excellent medical care from local specialists.

Witnesses said the former Speaker appeared to lose her footing while walking near a memorial site. Security personnel quickly assisted her, and she was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. Although details remain limited, early reports suggest Pelosi may have injured her hip or leg. Her team confirmed she is “alert, stable, and in good spirits.”

Representative Michael McCaul (R-Texas), who leads the bipartisan delegation, expressed disappointment that Pelosi could not continue the trip but praised her resilience. “She’s one of the toughest people I know — she’ll be back on her feet soon,” he said. The U.S. Embassy in Luxembourg is coordinating with local authorities and medical staff to ensure her full recovery.

Pelosi, who stepped down as Speaker in 2023, remains a major figure in American diplomacy. She was scheduled to deliver remarks honoring U.S. veterans and meet European Parliament officials to discuss democracy and global security. Her deep ties to World War II history reflect her lifelong admiration for veterans and her family’s legacy of service.

Lawmakers from both parties sent well-wishes. House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries called her “a model of grace and grit,” while Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell wished her a swift recovery. European leaders, including Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Luc Frieden and NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, also offered support.

As doctors monitor her progress, aides say Pelosi remains engaged with her staff in Washington and is eager to return home once cleared to travel. Despite the setback, many see the incident as a reminder of her enduring commitment and work ethic — even at 84, she continues to serve on the world stage with unshakable dedication.
