Many senior dogs spend their final years in shelters, yearning for love and comfort. Sadly, some people overlook them, choosing younger pets instead. But there are still kind souls who open their homes and hearts to older dogs, giving them the chance to live their remaining days surrounded by care and compassion.
One of those people is Zach Skow, co-founder of the California-based nonprofit Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue. Zach often fosters dogs in need, but when he met Henry, an elderly pup with serious health problems, something truly special began.

At around 16 years old, Henry had been surrendered by his previous owners because of his age and medical issues. He was deaf, partially blind, and had cancerous growths on his body. Believing Henry had only a short time left, Zach took him in as an end-of-life foster, hoping to give him comfort in his final days.
But Henry had other plans. Once he settled into his new home and experienced genuine love and care, his spirit began to shine again. After surgery to remove his tumors, he became lively and joyful — a completely different dog.
As the weeks passed, it became clear that Henry still had plenty of life left in him. That’s when Caro Aguilar came into the picture. She fell in love with Henry and decided to adopt him, fully aware that their time together might be short.

Henry needed some time to adjust to his new surroundings, but with patience and affection, he flourished once more. His new family made sure every day was filled with love, adventures, and joy. They even created an Instagram account to share his inspiring journey with the world.
Sadly, Henry passed away in June — but he spent his final months surrounded by love, happiness, and comfort thanks to Zach and Caro.
Without their compassion, Henry might have faced his last days alone in a shelter. Instead, he lived out his golden years knowing what it meant to be truly loved.
