NYPD Detective Found Dead One Week After Controversial Surgery

The New York Police Department is reeling from a devastating loss, mourning the untimely death of Detective Alicia Stone, who passed away just a week after undergoing a controversial cosmetic surgery in Colombia. Her death has shaken her family, colleagues, and the community, reigniting concerns over the dangers of medical tourism and the hidden risks of elective procedures abroad.

According to the New York Post, the 39-year-old detective — a dedicated officer and mother of three — traveled to Colombia for a butt lift and liposuction procedure. Those close to her say she sought the surgery to regain confidence and feel better about herself after years of balancing motherhood, work, and the daily stresses of life. Friends remember Alicia as vibrant, full of laughter, and always putting others first. Her sudden death has left them searching for answers.

Law enforcement sources reported that Alicia was found unresponsive in her hotel room around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, in Cali, where she was recovering post-surgery. Hotel staff immediately called emergency services, and she was rushed to Fundación Valle del Lili Hospital, one of the city’s top medical centers. Despite doctors’ efforts, she was pronounced dead just an hour later. The hospital listed her cause of death as “unspecified cardiac arrest,” though her family believes more investigation is needed.

Detective Stone had served 13 years with the NYPD, most recently in the Internal Affairs Bureau, where she was known for her professionalism, fairness, and empathy. Colleagues described her as deeply committed to justice, with a warm, motherly presence that made her beloved within the department. Her death has left fellow officers in disbelief.

Her husband, Michael Stone, is demanding answers. Speaking to the Daily News, he said he plans to request a full autopsy. “The doctor who called me from Colombia just told me my wife had passed away,” he said, voice heavy with grief. “She didn’t give me any details… Something doesn’t add up.”

Michael explained he had spoken with Alicia the day before her death, and she seemed “perfectly fine,” recovering well and optimistic about returning home. “To be told the next day that she was gone — it’s shocking and hurtful. I need the facts: what really happened.”

Sources indicate Alicia had been taking anticoagulants and pain medication as part of her post-operative care. After being discharged from the clinic, she continued her recovery in a hotel under remote supervision — a practice common in some international medical facilities but one that carries serious risks if complications arise.

Experts warn that procedures like the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), medically known as a gluteal fat transfer, carry one of the highest mortality rates in cosmetic surgery. A fat embolus — when fat enters the bloodstream and travels to the lungs or heart — is a rare but deadly risk, especially if fat is injected too deeply into muscle tissue. Accredited facilities and board-certified surgeons are critical, experts say, though often overlooked by patients seeking lower costs abroad.

Michael Stone hopes Alicia’s story will serve as a cautionary tale. “She was healthy, happy, full of life,” he said. “She just wanted to feel better about herself — she didn’t deserve this.”

Colleagues expressed profound grief. “She was more than a detective — she was a mentor, a friend, a light in our bureau,” one officer said. “Her integrity and compassion inspired everyone.”

A memorial is being planned to honor Alicia’s 13 years of service and the lasting impact she made. She is survived by her husband and three children, who now face the heartbreaking challenge of life without her. Friends and family remember her as “the heart of the family” — someone who never missed a birthday, stayed up late helping with school projects, and found joy in simple moments like Sunday breakfasts and cheering from the sidelines at her kids’ games.

Detective Alicia Stone’s story is tragic, but it highlights a growing concern: the risks associated with traveling abroad for cosmetic surgery.

May she be remembered not for the way she died, but for the way she lived — with courage, love, and unwavering service.

Rest in peace, Detective Alicia Stone. Your legacy will endure.
